& Software Requirements
| The system you need depends on whether or not you
will be running Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It's voice recognition engine
demands a much more powerful system than Medamation MD alone. |

| When using
Dragon, we recommend buying the fastest system possible. Below are the
minimums, but spending a little more on a faster
processor & more memory will result in a definite
increase in productivity. |
Without Dragon NaturallySpeaking:
- Pentium, 100 MHz
- 32 MB of RAM (64 MB recommended)
- 3+ Gigabyte Hard Drive
- CD-ROM Drive
- Video Card set to 1024 x 768 resolution, 16 or
24 bit color
- Printer: Hewlett-Packard 2000 with optional
second tray or other high-quality color printer with 2 paper trays
With Dragon NaturallySpeaking:
- Pentium II, 400 MHz (Pentium IV 1 Ghz or more recommended)
- 128 MB of RAM (256 MB
or more recommended).
- 3+ Gigabyte Hard Drive
- CD-ROM Drive
- Video Card set to 1024 x 768 resolution, 16 or
24 bit color
- Sound Card: Turtle Beach Montego II (Windows 98
& Windows NT) or Sound Blaster Live Value Edition (Windows
98, 2000 & NT)
- Quality Headset (Parrot VXI is an excellent choice. Refer
to Dragon's hardware requirements)
- Printer: Hewlett-Packard 2000 with optional
second tray or other high-quality color printer with 2 paper trays
Recommended (with or without Dragon)
- 19 in. monitor
- Digital Camera: 1-2 mega pixel resolution,
macro capability, flash, SLR viewfinder. Olympus D 500L, D 600L
& D 620L are all excellent choices.
- Camera Mate film reader (USB preferred for
Windows 98 & 2000, SCSI for NT)
- Network Interface Card: 3 Com 10/100 Ethernet

Scanner: Hewlett-Packard 6200 C, SCSI.
- Printer: Hewlett-Packard 2000 with optional

- SCSI card: Adaptec 2030 (minimum)
- Backup System: Iomega 250 MB Zip drive,
Re-writable CD recorder, or Tape backup
About Laptops
While laptop computers add a element of
mobility, they tend to be somewhat slower than desktop computers with equal
specifications. If you are purchasing a laptop, we strongly recommend
buying the fastest one you can afford, to obtain the most efficient and
accurate voice recognition.
However if you are not using Dragon, just about any
laptop will work fine, as long as it has a screen resolution of 1024 x
768.
Software Requirements
- On new systems we recommend
Windows 2000, but on existing systems Windows 98 should
work best.
- If using Dragon voice
recognition software (strongly recommended) it should be
installed and "trained" first.
